Walter Vinson

Walter Vinson is a Government Affairs professional with over 28 years of extensive experience in government relations. He is skilled in policy decision-making; building consensus through persuasive communications and strategic relationship management; grassroots campaign management; message development; legislative research; fundraising, and funding appropriations at the federal, state and local levels.

 

As Government Affairs Director for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), Walter Vinson is responsible for managing the Airport’s state, and federal legislative affairs, including initiating legislation at all levels and monitoring state and federal legislation that impacts the Airport. He also manages the state and federal contract lobbying firms and association relationships (Airports Council International-NA, American Association of Airport Executives, Airport Minority Advisory Council).

 

In 2006, Mr. Vinson joined Hartsfield-Jackson as the Government Affairs Manager, where he led lobbying efforts to fund various projects to improve the overall efficiency of Airport operations, infrastructure and security. In 2020, he joined the City of Atlanta’s Mayor’s Office as Intergovernmental Affairs Manager, representing Atlanta on legislative matters before the Georgia General Assembly and the United States Congress. Mr. Vinson’s advocacy strategy resulted in $292 million in direct Coronavirus Relief federal funding. In 2022, he returned to ATL as the Director of Government Affairs.

 

Previously, Mr. Vinson represented Fulton County Government as a Legislative Administrator in Atlanta. On Capitol Hill, he served in governmental roles including Legislative Director for U.S. Rep Bennie G. Thompson as well as Senior Professional Staff Manager for the U.S. House Committee on Agriculture.

 

Mr. Vinson obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Alcorn State University and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from Bowie State University.
